Affectionately known as “The Duke,” our venue is a much-loved landmark on Victoria Street, where more than 170 years of history meets modern Melbourne hospitality.

The story began in 1853, when the venue first opened as Simpson’s Hotel, before becoming The Duke of Albany Hotel in 1883 and establishing itself as part of the local community for generations.

After almost four decades of silence, The Duke was brought back from near ruin through a deeply personal commitment to local community, heritage and preservation. The vision behind its revival was never simply to reopen a pub, but to protect an important piece of the neighbourhood’s history and give it new life for the generations to come.

Its restoration has been guided by respect for the building’s original character, retaining the soul of The Duke while creating a warm and welcoming place for today.
